Staying Safe This Holiday Season

Having dietary requirements around the holiday can bring added stress and anxiety- especially if you're not in control!

Here are some of our top 5 tips for surviving:

1. Be prepared

If you’re going out- whether it be to a restaurant or round to your loved ones, take a few snacks with you just in case (nothing wrong with having some back up cake too)! You could even offer to make something then you’ll know at least there’s one safe option for you.

2. Ask!

Don't be afraid to ask what they’re making, and how. Do they have any cross contamination prevention procedures in place? If you’re going out, call ahead and ask as many questions as you need to. See our eating out guide for more tips, and things to ask!

3. Remind

Remind your friends and family about your dietary restrictions and cross contamination- it’s easy for them to forget these things amongst all the holiday stress, a little nudge won't hurt. Don't forget to remind your waiter at the restaurant, once you sit down, when they are taking your bill, and when they bring your food- restaurants get really busy at this time of year and unfortunately, mistakes can easily happen.

4. Alcohol and drinks

Don't forget there can be a little gluten hiding away in some seasonal drinks and alcohols. Remember what alcohols are and aren’t gluten free- Cider, wine, sherry, spirits, port and liqueurs are a safe bet (always double check if unsure). See our alcohol guide for more help!

5. Enjoy yourself!

You deserve to enjoy the holidays too! And with a little preparation you can :)
